Tycoon or Shark fan? Ice Hockey in HK

Notable sporting events in Hong Kong have names like Cricket 6's and Rugby 7's. What you might not expect to find in the tropical climate of HK, is the Hockey 5's.

We didn't attend the hockey 5 tournament, but along with the Annis family, we did see 4 professional teams play.
They don't play in a stadium, but on the 10th floor of the Megabox mall. A small amount of bleacher seats are placed next to the glass allowing an up close view of the game.

Jane and Zoee were good cheerleaders.

We had the pleasant surprise of running into Craig and Keegan Harvey.

ICS had supplied us with the tickets and we shared the space with several of the ICS kids, faculty and parents. Kowloon Warriors and South China Sharks was the name of some of teams. If you want more details about players, scores and events of the game check out Keegan's post here.

Next time we will bring our own snacks and drinks. We were expecting there to be concessions selling us overpriced popcorn and forbidding us outside food and drink, but to our surprise there was nothing like that readily available. A few trips to the 7-11 on the first floor were made.

The kids loved it when any of the players would be body-checked against the glass. They spent the game with their faces close against the plated glass and it gave them quite a thrill.

Elliot fell backwards once, we got it on video here.

Autographs were given out to the kids by a few of the players that sat with us.

Jemilla's Birthday

Jane's friend, Jemilla Harvey turned 9 and the Sweeney family was invited to the house to join the celebration.

Renee brought back these terrific mosaic crafts from their recent trip to Australia. It proved to be too long of a task for Elliot, but Jane finished it and was glad to bring it home.

These beautifully decorated cupcakes were a hit with the kids.

Thanks for a fun time Harvey family!

Happy Birthday Jemilla

Disney On Ice

On January 2nd Jane and I went to Macau to watch Disney On Ice. We were invited along by Renee and Jemilla Harvey. We travelled by the Ferry and took a shuttle to the Venetian Hotel.

There is an actual canal in the hotel with gondolas and trained gondoliers who sing Italian ballads while you float along the water. The sky inside gives you the feeling of being outside.
I wasn't impressed with the lack of restrictions on smoking, even at the food court there were no signs posted and no one stopping anyone from doing it.

Featuring Cars, Lion King, The Little Mermaid and Tinker Bell

We had good seats. I was impressed by the skater who had to wear the Ursula costume and skate around.

Can you spot the drivers cleverly hidden inside the vehicles?

A great day out for the moms and daughters.

Christmas Eve Celebration

Christmas Eve 2010 from outypants on Vimeo.

We were able to celebrate Christmas with our friends. In attendance: The hosts The Harveys, their friend Natalie, and the Wang family.

lots of food!

I was able to find Christmas Crackers in the store and was excited to try them out. As an American they were never part of any tradition in our house.
Renee told me about the tradition of having them on Christmas day in Australia. I have seen and heard of them referred to in British stories or television .

Traditional cracker prizes: Hats, a joke and a toy.

Crafts: gingerbread cookie decoration, wreath making, and Christmas cards.

Elliot hasn't quite learned about the spirit of giving..
The kids listening to the Christmas story read by Craig.

The kids had a gift exchange and received wonderful gifts.

Having a bit of fun. Albert was the brave dad who tried it on.

A lovely time with our Hong Kong family !
