Sheung Yiu Folk Museum

We made a recent trip to the Sheung Yiu Folk Museum in Sai Kung. We begin our journey at University Station and took a taxi to the Sai Kung Park visitors center. The museum was less than a half hour hike from this point.

Jennifer and the older Whitford girls Brookelyn and Savanah joined us.

Beautiful Turtles on display at the visitors center.

Rooms inside the building are filled with artifacts from traditional Hakka people.

The hike back to the bus stop

Hong Kongers love their pets. We saw this poster with a $30,000 reward for finding this lost dog.

We then we were to take bus#94 to Sai Kung. We were not happy to find after 20 minutes of waiting the #94 was full. We were able to get a taxi to take us all to Sai Kung, we paid a little extra.

Ma On Shan Tsuen

We spent a warm December day hiking along Ma On Shan. We took a taxi to the BBQ area and took us about 3 hours to reach Sai Kung. There is a plateau with tall grass that the kids enjoyed playing hide and seek in. There were people paragliding on the spot as well. A clear view of Sai Kung and surrounding islands is seen from the top. The way we took down was a little rocky and steep. We made our way to Sai Kung to get pizza from Paisanos. A great end to a great hike.

Sai Kung

Nathan and Jason went hiking on Saturday and ended up in Sai Kung. After walking around they thought it would be a good idea for us to meet them out there. Bethany and I grabbed the kids and took the MTR to Shatin and the 299 to Sai Kung it only took about 45 minutes.

One of the most exciting things for us to do was to walk pass all the tanks holding the various sea creatures you can choose to eat. One little critter tried to escape. I can't imagine asking them to prepare the fish that was about as big as Elliot for lunch.

I wasn't sure the kids would find it all that fun, but thanks to the variety of playgrounds and the tanks they were amused.

Sai Kung has a good amount of foreigners living there. The good part about that is western style restaurants. We found Paisanos a pizza place that has 24" pizzas! We were excited just to get the 16" aside from Jason who really thought we should have got the 24" Next time.. When we asked the American owner about delivery he said he would meet us halfway. It is tempting to consider it.

My intentions are to return and take a Sampan and eat some good sea food!
